My cousin is expecting their first baby. This my cousin that called me one morning and asked me to fly out to Yellowstone with him that afternoon. (Actually, he called for my brother but he spent the night with a friend. So, I got the free trip.) The trip was amazing. Even with the Prince tape that was stuck in the cassette deck of the car we borrowed once there. To this day, whenever I hear Prince I think of that trip. And he the one that asked me to read at his wedding which I thought would be no big deal. And then I get up there. See all our family, see the two of them and choked my way through the words not really knowing what the heck I was saying anymore. Needless to say, I’m super excited for them! I’ve been shopping and the things that this baby is getting from me so far are these which I think says far more about me than the baby!

* Bu Blanket, from Little Red Stuga
Also available here and discounted 50%

* Matchbox Mouse by Maileg, available from Romp
There also exists a Mouse House that they will be getting when they are a bit older.

* Haba Wooden Trix Toy, available here.

* Sophie the Giraffe Teether by Vulli, available here.
I know. It does seem a bit like a glorified dog toy to me, too. But folks say their babies love it and if I can’t splurge on it, who can!
* A baby wrap from both Miracle Blanket and a SwaddleMe cause I fear my cousin will get all annoyed with the fussiness of the Miracle Blanket one.
* Plus, a car seat. For all the trips to come see me and vice versa. :) Now for the waiting, I have a few plans of things to make and give them from me so I’m sure the time will fly by!

As I’ve been using more ribbon lately, in my wedding toppers and other designs, I’ve found my collection of it to be slowly getting out of control as it continues to steadily grow in size. I buy the same thing twice, can’t ever seem to find the color I need. You know the drill. So I got them in control last night before bed. I keep many of my products and supplies in an old mail sorter which I found boxes that fit into perfectly. And now the ribbon fits in the boxes perfectly, too.

I used double-thick boards to wrap my ribbon around, but old cardboard is great, too. I cut a slit in the board so I didn’t have to tape the ribbon down, wrapped the ribbon around the board and secured the end with a tiny straight pin.

What used to be in five different places is now all together. Organization is so satisfying. And so pretty.

A long time ago, I had picked up a half finished quilt top at an antique mall and it was in pretty bad shape. I love the colors and fabrics and ultimately ending up cutting it into strips and making streamers from it. I posted about this project years back on our old blog, which is now long gone, and for awhile after that I used them on my bed, and then I pulled them out as decorations for our mantle. I love them as the party streamers and love more you can reuse them year to year and they don’t get ripped, broken or tossed out.

Most recently, they became yet a new decoration in the form of a simple, graphic and, yet, comfortable feeling wreath.

I simply wrapped the streamers around a wreath form that I picked up at our local craft store and simply secured the end with one straight pin.

The nice thing is the wreaths are made with a stryofoam base so after the season passes, I can pull off the streamers without any harm and use them again on the bed or as party decorations. For the one on our door, I hung feather I had picked up on a walk in the center. Bring on spring.

Here are a bunch of ideas for my favorite gift tags that I use on pretty much everything lately. I love a simply wrapped gift with a not-so-fussy gift tag on top. To make them, I use my stash of tongue depressors and wooden rectangular shapes to whip up a few in a jiffy.

This basic idea I use a bunch of different ways. One way I make them is to use some vintage seal books my mother gave me. If you do a search for them, like on Ebay, Eureka and Dennison where the primary manufacturers of them.

They a bunch of great designs from holiday themes to animals and each booklet comes with about 6 pages of 6-8 designs per page. Some of them are gummed and the later ones are self-adhesive. I am also completely in love with the sticker sheets that come with The Perfect Note desktop set from Chronicle Books. I have bought another set just for the stickers alone! They have been perfect for so many things, including gift tags. (The stamps that are in the set are awesome, too.)

For the smaller stickers + seals, I glue using a glue stick them to a tongue depressor and just use my Fiskars craft shears I have and they cut right through the wood at the size I need.

Then I just use my hand drill to drill a hole in the top of the tag. Here is an assortment of ones I made up. One even using a design from my The Stick People Printable Collection.

So stinkin’ sweet. And for the bigger seals, I put them on larger wood pieces and drill a hole in the center and screw in a screw eye to pass the twine through. That way, they can even be used as ornaments or door hangers around the house after the package is opened.

You can even use giftwrapping paper to glue to the top of a piece of rectangular wood. These were ornaments I made from some giftwrap this past year which I then glued pipe cleaners all around. They were a hit and easy to do.

Finally, the last gift tags I use a bunch are made from my favorite Alphabet Stamp Sets I bought a couple years ago. (These sets come in a wooden suitcase and come in three sizes: smaller alphabet, larger alphabet and number set. You can buy the smaller sets here. I can’t find the larger stamp set online anywhere right now.) I just stamp the letter on a small piece of wood using stamp ink okay for wood, and then punch a hole in the top with a smaller hole punch, and using some twist ties in fun patterns to attach it to the gift.

I use them on plain white paper bags and I think they end up looking so simple and clean and eager. Perfect.
